Well hello there

Hi.  I'm Brent.

The first real prototype

My name is Brent Kruithof, and I started working out when I was 17 years old and weighed 95 pounds. I was the definition of “puny.” Soon, exercise became more than a hobby - I loved to learn more about it, try new things, and see improved results. I worked out consistently throughout high school and college, then the "real world" hit. My first job out of college was an accountant for a big four public accounting firm.

As a CPA, I had long busy seasons and traveled frequently, which didn’t give me much time to get to the gym. I started working out at home, but quickly realized my workout wasn’t nearly as effective as when I could get to the gym. I tried some home gym products but found that they were gimmicky and didn’t give me a total body workout. So, I decided to develop my own product to fix this problem. It would be equipment that was portable, affordable, versatile, and (most importantly) effective.

So, I quit my job as a CPA and launched FLYUP Fitness in the summer of 2012 with the help of my wife and dad. We poured over the design and the materials for months, and met with engineers and materials specialists to create several iterations of the FLYUP™. We came up with our first working prototype by the end of 2012. We played with it for six months to determine everything we didn't like about it. We went back to the drawing board and completely changed the design to something we absolutely love.

In the summer of 2013, we won first place in the popular vote competition of a Cincinnati innovation competition by beating out 165 other entries. Shortly afterwards, we joined forces with a local marketing firm that has helped us grow our business and our network. In the fall of 2013, we planned and launched a crowd funding campaign through Kickstarter and raised over 200% of our goal. We fulfilled our Kickstarter orders in the Spring of 2014 and began selling FLYUPs™ through our website.

These are the highlights, but there have been many other stories, miracles, (miserable) failures, and adventures along the way. It's been an incredible journey so far, and we are continuing to grow every week!

Aside from the business stuff, God has taught me a lot about trusting in Him since we launched. Don't get me wrong, the business-y side is great and that's what the website is really all about, but if you want to learn about the best part of the story, continue to read about God's work in my life through FLYUP Fitness.
